The main difference between 316 and 316L round bars is their carbon content. Both grades are austenitic stainless steels with similar compositions, but 316L has a lower carbon content than 316. The "L" in 316L stands for "low carbon, " meaning it contains less carbon than 316. This lower carbon content in 316L makes it more corrosion-resistant than 316, especially in welding environments. The lower carbon content in 316L reduces the likelihood of carbide precipitation and improves its resistance to intergranular corrosion.
Stainless Steel 316 round bars are used in various applications, particularly in industries where corrosion resistance & high-temperature strength are critical. Stainless Steel 316 is an austenitic stainless steel with excellent corrosion resistance, making it suitable for use in harsh environments, such as marine & chemical processing applications. Stainless Steel 316 round bars are commonly used in the manufacturing of valves, pumps & fittings, as well as in the construction of tanks and vessels.
Stainless Steel 316L round bars offer several benefits over other materials. The low carbon content of 316L makes it more resistant to carbide precipitation, which can cause intergranular corrosion & cracking during welding. Stainless Steel 316L round bars also offer excellent high-temperature strength, making them suitable for heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and chemical processing equipment applications.
