316 / 316L / 316TI are types of stainless steel which are also called as marine grade stainless steel. It is an alloy of steel that possesses elements like nickel, chromium, and molybdenum. They are used in different industries because of properties like corrosion resistance and good strength. The difference between 316 and 316L is that the 316L contains less amount of carbon in comparison to 316. Moreover, because of this characteristic, it is preferred for body piercings, biomedical implants, and body modification implants. Usually, when used inside the body there are chances of nickel to react, henceforth nickel-free alloys are preferred. 316 alloy is used in the manufacture of food as well as in its handling. Whereas, 316Ti is a titanium-based stainless steel alloy. The addition of titanium stabilizes the structure from chromium carbide precipitations.
